05/02/2022: Weekly Briefing
The news about Fidelity allowing bitcoin to be included into 401k plans came as a bit of a surprise to me this week. This doesn’t mean bitcoin will necessarily be included in every 401k plan, but it is still a very strong signal about insitutional money accepting bitcoin as an investment.
To be honest, one of the reasons I was most surprised is that big institutions like Fidelity don’t tend to be the first adopters for things like this…but to my knowledge this is the first institution that’s added any kind of crypto into 401k’s(?). Even though Fidelity has experimented with bitcoin before, I’m still pretty surprised that they included it in reitirement plans, which in my mind I would think woudl veer towards more traditional and less volatile investments.
It will be interesting to watch1) how quickly bitcoin is adopted into the actual plans 2) if other financial insitutions will follow.

🎥The Netflix documentary that highlights the engineers and astronauts who contributed to SpaceX success is well worth it…(even though I have lots of critiques of Elon Musk and the documentary leaves certain things out about Elon). It really showcases the power of innovation and persistence. Also it was directed by Oscar-winners Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin who did Free Solo, 14 Peaks, and Meru (all 10/10’s), so I’m very happy to support them.

🎧I’m usually very skeptical about people who talk about productivity, but this Time and Attention podcast with writer Chris Bailey and economist Ardyn Nordstrom shares concrete tips and provides a new perspective on our daily habits without being condescending or preachy. This episode about how thinking like an economist can improve trade offs and productivity was one of my favs.
